Jemar Poteat



Jemar Poteat grew up playing drums in church from the age of 8, and began playing professionally and recording by the age of 12 in his hometown of Ardmore, OK. He attended East Central University from 2001-2002, went on to pursue his studies in percussion at the University of Oklahoma from 2002-2006. Jemar also participated in the jazz program at OU, being awarded accolades at numerous jazz festivals around the nation for outstanding musicianship.

Jemar has worked as a full-time musician in the state of Oklahoma and surrounding regions for nearly 15 years. He is in high demand with many jazz artist around the state of Oklahoma. Jemar has played on many records from college graduate albums, to albums with Raul Reyes(UNT bassist One O'Clock lab band), Xiaojun Chen(China), New Growth(OKC), Wes McMichael(Norman)

Jemar is currently based in Oklahoma City, where he serves as the Music Director at Peoples Church, where he oversees about 60 musicians on a weekly basis.
