Associate Professor of Percussion External Websites: Web Resume
Wayne Bovenschen has served as Assistant Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Percussion at Oklahoma State University for 24 years. In this capacity, he is the Assistant Director of the Cowboy Marching Band, directs the OSU Spirit Bands at Men's and Women's basketball games, instructs the Concert Percussion Ensemble, Marching Percussion Ensemble, studio lessons, percussion techniques class, and is co-sponsor of the Alpha Chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. A graduate of Michigan State University, Mr. Bovenschen holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music in Applied Percussion. Most recently, the OSU Marching Percussion Ensemble was invited as one of three university drumlines to present a concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 11, 2011. In previous years, this group has also competed in the PASIC Marching Percussion Forum six times placing as high as second in 2001. The Concert Percussion Ensemble was also selected as one of two university ensembles to present a showcase concert at the 1996 PASIC in Nashville, Tennessee. Since 2005, Mr. Bovenschen has served as the music director for the Stillwater Community Band. In January 2011, this ensemble was invited to perform at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OMEA) state convention in Tulsa, OK. He has also conducted high school and junior high honor bands throughout Oklahoma. Currently, the OSU Percussion Studio has 16 graduates teaching in 6A music programs in Texas and Oklahoma and 5 that have been hired as university professors. As an educator, Mr. Bovenschen has ten years experience working with secondary school students through work with various drum & bugle corps throughout the nation including Northern Aurora, Phantom Regiment, Suncoast Sound and Black Gold. For six years he served as staff/program coordinator for Northern Aurora and Black Gold. He has also been assisting high school bands and percussion programs around the nation since 1982. As an arranger, Mr. Bovenschen has written over 400 percussion scores for high school and college marching bands and drum & bugle corps across the country. He has also written full band arrangements and drill for college bands in Oklahoma and Texas and has been published by Drop6 Media and Arrangers Publishing, Inc. Mr. Bovenschen's prior university teaching experience includes band teaching assistant and percussion instructor for the Michigan State University Spartan Marching Band and percussion instructor for Lansing Community College. He has performed with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and the Cavaliers and Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps. Mr. Bovenschen is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, serving as a member of the International Percussion Ensemble Committee and twice as president of the Oklahoma Chapter. He is also a member of the CBDNA, MENC, International Association of Rudimental Percussionists, Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and serves as a clinician for Ludwig Industries and Vic Firth, Inc.
