Susie Brown, a native of Louisiana who currently resides in Tulsa, has taught at Oklahoma State University since 1996. She received her performance and education degrees in both flute and bassoon from West Texas A&M University where she studied with William Davis, Sue Schrier Bancroft, and Gary Garner.

In 1978, upon moving to Tulsa, she became a member of the Tulsa Philharmonic where she played both bassoon and contra-bassoon for twenty three years. She is now the Associate Principal bassoonist with the newly formed Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. In addition, her active free-lance career includes playing with the Signature Symphony, Bartlesville Symphony, Ft. Smith Symphony and the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra Woodwind Quintet. Susie holds the possition of 2nd bassoonist for both the Tulsa Opera Orchestra and the Tulsa Ballet Orchestra in addition to playing principal bassoon with the Light Opera Oklahoma summer festival and the Tulsa Starlight Band.

Susie has appreared at the OKMozart International Festival both as a bassoonist with Solisti New York and also with her trio, the Council Oak Trio, which she co-founded in 1994. The Council Oak Trio, a recipient of grants from Chamber Music America, Oklahoma State Arts Council, Chamber Music Tulsa and the Perrin Foundation has toured extensively, performing in both educational concerts, workshops and formal concerts.

For the past twenty years, Susie has served as a teacher trainer and artist with the Harwelden Institute of the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa. In addition to teaching bassoon at Oklahoma State University, she also maintains an active private bassoon and flute studio in Tulsa.
