OSU/Tulsa Symphony Graduate String Fellowships
Oklahoma State University and the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra are pleased to call for applications for the Patti Johnson Wilson Graduate Fellowships in String Orchestral Performance. A two- year program, this fellowship will allow qualified applicants to pursue a graduate degree at OSU while performing as section players with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. Accepted applicants can expect to receive tuition waivers as well as health benefits while they are enrolled in the program. For more information, click here.
OSU Students Dominate OMTA/MTNA State Competitions
OSU music students took home top honors in numerous categories in the Oklahoma State OMTA/MTNA Competitions held November 2-3 on the OSU campus. OSU students won the MTNA Collegiate Young Artist Competitions for piano, strings, and woodwinds, as well as the MTNA Woodwind and String Ensemble categories. These winners will advance to regional competition in Louisiana this January. In addition, OSU students were alternates or honorable mentions in the piano and WW Ensemble competition. OSU piano students won and received alternate/honorable mention awards in the OMTA State Competitions in both the Junior/Senior and Freshman/Sophomore categories. OSU to Present 3rd Annual Festival of Contemporary Music
From October 28-31, the OSU Department of Music will present its 3rd Annual Festival of Contemporary Music. This year's festival is part of the OK New Music Project, which is a year-long series of contemporary music programs. The festival will include performances by the Frontiers New Music Ensemble (10/28), a recital by OSU piano faculty member Dr. Michael Kirkendoll (10/30), and masters candidate Mallory Turlington who will be accompanied by the Frontiers New Music Ensemble in the premiere of a new work by composer Jason Charney (10/31). All concerts are free and open to the public.
OSU Music Major Named Homecoming Queen
Lucy Bates, a double major piano performance and pre-med, was named 2013 Homecoming Queen on October 19! Lucy is a student of Dr. Thomas Lanners and is also a violinist in the OSU Symphony Orchestra. Congratulations, Lucy!
Professor April Golliver to Present First Lady of OSU Concert

OSU Will Host All-State Clinic
On October 13, OSU Woodwing and Brass faculty members will host a clinic for high school students interested in auditioning for the All-State and Region Bands. Information is available here.
Horn Student Achieves Competition Success!
Ernie Tovar, a senior majoring in horn performance, earned 3rd place honors in the International Horn Competition of America at the University of Louisville. The competition featured 53 students from major universities and conservatories around the world. Ernie is a student of OSU horn professor Lanette Lopez Compton. Congratulations to Ernie and Lanette!
Renowned Composer Samuel Adler to Visit OSU
Composer Samuel Adler, longtime faculty member at the Juilliard School of Music, will visit OSU on Friday, September 6 for lectures and workshops with OSU students. Mr. Adler will share stories from his life as a composer and talk about the place of classical music in the 21st Century.
