Dr. Tyler Austin joins the faculty at Oklahoma State University as Assistant Director of Bands, where he will assist with the Cowboy Marching Band, direct the Cowboy Spirit Bands, conduct the Concert Band, and teach courses in Music Education. In 2015, Austin founded the Maryland Wind Festival, where he serves as Artistic Director and Conductor. Now in its 4th season, MWF is a festival of wind chamber music and educational outreach based in Frederick and Hagerstown, Maryland and their surrounding communities. The festival brings together an international ensemble of performers, who perform as the Maryland Chamber Winds for an annual concert series and educational outreach program.

Dr. Austin comes to OSU from Michigan State University, where he co-directed the MSU Campus Band, guest conducted MSU's concert ensembles, and assisted with the Spartan Marching Band and Spartan Brass. Prior to his study at MSU, he served as Director of Bands at St. John's Catholic Prep in Frederick, MD. While teaching, Austin freelanced with professional wind bands and orchestras throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Austin has held positions as Principal Bassoon of the Maryland Lyric Opera Orchestra and Second Bassoon with the Liberty Wind Symphony, a new professional wind ensemble based in West Chester, PA. Austin holds a DMA in Wind Conducting from Michigan State University, an MM in Bassoon Performance from the University of North Texas, and a BM in Music Education from Susquehanna University.
