The OSU String Area is pleased to announce the third annual OSU High School String Competition. Open to violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists in grades 10 through 12, this competition provides an opportunity for the region's top string students to compete for monetary awards, written commentary from professional string educators and performers, and scholarship consideration for music study at OSU.
Date: February 18, 2017
Location: Seretean Center for the Performing Arts - Concert Hall
- First Place - $500.00
- Second Place - $250.00
In addition, students in grade 12 may use their competition performance as their audition for entrance into the OSU Music Program and application for scholarship consideration. Please indicate this preference on the entry form.
Violin, viola, cello, and bass students currently enrolled in grades 10 through 12. Additionally, home-schooled students are welcome. Private students of OSU string faculty members may participate in order to receive comments but are not eligible to win.
Contestants must perform from memory two substantial works from the standard solo repertoire. The works must be from contrasting style periods with a minimum length of 5 minutes and a maximum length of 15 minutes. Please provide the judges with a score (original print version, no photocopies) for both works, with measures numbered.
Please submit a non-refundable entry fee of $25.00 per student with the entry form. Please make checks payable to "OSU Department of Music."
Registrations must be postmarked by Friday, February 3, 2017. Audition times and further information will be mailed to entrants by Friday, February 10, 2017. Please contact Dr. Laura Talbott Clark should questions arise.
The OSU string faculty will be joined by two non-OSU string professionals as judges for the competition. Each entrant will receive written comments from the panel, as well as a Certificate of Merit for their participation.
