AUDITIONS for OSU'S NEWEST MUSIC MAJORS,
beginning FALL 2012

Plan ahead for these audition dates. We also strongly recommend that you visit our campus on a "SHADOW PROGRAM" day. These days include a campus tour, attending classes with a music student, singing with the choirs, having a cameo voice lesson with one of our voice faculty, and lunch with an undergraduate music student. There is no better way to find whether or not OSU is right for you. Call Dr. Stroope and schedule a time to shadow. (Mondays and Wednesdays are shadow days.)

BM in Music Education, BA in Music & BM with studies in Business:

  • Two memorized works from the classical vocal repertoire (no pop, broadway or contemporary Christian).
1) At least one selection must be in either Italian, German, Spanish or French.

2) Applicants will be evaluated on poise, excellent pitch, proper breathing, phrasing, expression and tone.

  • Sight reading (music literacy) is an important aspect of the audition at OSU. Each applicant will be asked to sight read two excerpts.

  • Bring a copy of music for the accompanist. (An accompanist is provided, but the applicant can certainly bring their own if they wish.)

  • This audition determines...
    1) acceptance as a voice major at OSU.

    2) whether a student will be placed on the scholarship list.

    3) in many cases, in which ensemble a student will begin.
